The
original founders of WBN Communications Ltd.
identified wireless technology as the most
cost effective way of providing 'always on'
broadband Internet access.
In
1998, WBN initiated a practical pilot research
project consisting of a small network of
five local businesses. This was the first
and only research project on fixed wireless
broadband in Ireland using 2.4 GHz and 5.8
GHz spectrum.
Research
was mostly concentrated around these two
frequencies, both of which have the advantage
of not requiring a licence. The mission was
to produce a system which was reliable, secure
and affordable. A wireless pilot network
was established in Tullamore with four representative
customers. (The Midlands Regional Authority,
The Bridge House Hotel, Quest Campus at Charleville
Castle and Professional Signs and O’Meara
Bookmakers). The system was designed to operate
up to a range of three miles in all directions
from the base station.
During
the four year trial period the system operated
continuously and without interruption. It
proved extremely reliable, worked entirely
to design specifications, and provided a
consistently fast Internet connection in
all weather conditions.
WBN
has both the expertise and the technology
to be able to provide an extremely fast and
reliable service, with significant advantages
over DSL broadband. These advantages include
a superior choice of tested and flexible
technology, allowing WBN to provide a better
range of services for a lower deployment
cost.
WBN
has put together the most experienced team
in the wireless broadband industry in Ireland
and also have developed strategic alliances
with wireless broadband operators in the
U.S.A. U.K and Asia, which gives us access
to the latest technology developments and
technical support. WBN believes that the
redundancy and flexibility of the system
they have developed offers major advantages
over other commercial systems in wireless
broadband, especially in terms of reliability,
and ultimately, customer satisfaction.
