WBN’s system operates through a wireless
base station, connected to the Internet via a dedicated
fibre optic line.
Each business, or home user,
wishing to use the network is connected by
installing a small antenna to the customer’s
building.
(This antenna does not require planning
permission.)
Direct line of sight is normally
required between the customer and the nearest
base station, although
alternative designs are possible in specific
scenarios.
An access unit is also installed
in the building
that allows the customer to connect to
the Internet via the base station. It also
allows
users to
connect to other offices and businesses
on the network,
thus allowing for both internet and intranet
structures.
For home users, a simple USB
connection to a low
cost wireless router may be all that
is required, without any external aerials necessary.

Benefits to Business
WBN’s flat-rate fee system
provides “always
on” broadband connectivity, at speeds up
to thirty times faster than standard dial-up,
and up to sixteen times faster than a single
channel
ISDN connection. Moreover, wireless connections
operate completely independently of existing
telephone systems, thus offering significant
savings. Wireless
broadband does not have any upstream limit, wireless
is also more suited to delivering VPN (virtual
private network) Video Conferencing, Remote Security
Camera Monitoring, VOIP (voice over internet
protocol) which allows corporate sites to interlink
their
phone systems (PBX), thereby eliminating the
expense of regular local and long distance calls
between
offices.
